Amy Zerner is one of the leading collage artists in the world.
She uses an appliqued palette of found materials, hand painted and dyed fabrics, vintage textiles, trimmings, antique beads and amulets to make her worlds of wonder rich with layers of meaning and imagination. She gathers these items from all over the world—French high fashion silks, 18th century English brocades, Japanese kimonos—and the hundreds of patterns, colors and textures of these exotic elements are incorporated to convey the many details and complexities of life and nature.
Bridging the gap between fine art and fine craft, Zerner's collage tapestries and wearable art have been shown in more the eighty one-woman gallery and museum shows. She has been the recipient of many awards, including a National Endowment for the Arts grant. A recent review in the New York Times said, "Amy Zerner draws on the zodiac, tarot cards, Eastern deities, and classical mythology to creat elaborate and highly decorative fabric collages that imply a fundamental unity of spiritual experience".
For thirty years Zerner has used her prodigious talent to create more than a thousand works of art, all of which embody and convey the inspiration and healing power she has experienced through her study and personal application of ancient sacred teachings.
Amy Zerner's tapestry collages appear throughout the forty books and oracles she has co-created with her author husband, Monte Farber, with more than two million copies in print around the world in twelve languages.
Her work is in the collections of Elizabeth Taylor, Patti LaBelle, Oprah, Martha Stewart, Michael J. Fox, Mary Rodgers Guettel, Marianne Williamson, Audrey Flack, Carolyn Horchow and many well-known Hamptonites.
Zerner's luxurious one-of-a kind robes, what she calls "Spiritual Couture", are her interpretation of healing, uplifting energies that make the wearer feel empowered and beautiful. In her collaged creations, Zerner preserves bits and pieces of the past and present and incorporates them into images that are beyond time. Her work is a celebration of the balance she finds between sight and insight, material and metaphor. They are sold exclusively Bergdorf Goodman in New York City and at select Neiman Marcus stores around the USA.
